Notre Dame de Paris, circa 1800

The inspiration for this piece was the news that Notre Dame Cathedral had burned in April of 2019. I visited the grand ole Dame in 1994 on a layover from Ukraine back to the States. We stopped and had a couple days touring the city of Paris and Notre Dame was our first stop. It breaks my heart that my children may never see it brought back to its grandeur. So I found this book illustration by Alfred Alexandre Delauney in the 1800’s and used it to produce my tribute to the cathedral.

Measurements 36” x 44”, burned with a hand held wood burner on Ash plywood.  Framed in a plain hand made frame of Poplar wood stained Espresso brown.
